TERMS OF SERVICE

By using Afterline BBS ("Afterline," "the Service"), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

1. The Service

Afterline is a bulletin board system delivered as a browser extension. It provides community features including a public wall, conference chat, instant messages (IMs), and online presence. The Service is provided by an independent operator ("SysOp").

The Service may include an optional automated in-board character (“Ava”). Ava is software, not a person. Responses are generated automatically and may be incorrect, incomplete, or unsuitable. Ava is not a substitute for professional, medical, legal, financial, or other expert advice.

2. Accounts

You must be at least 18 years old to use Afterline. By creating an account, you represent that you meet this requirement.

When you register, you choose a handle (username) and provide an email address and password. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure. One account per person. Handles must not impersonate other people or entities.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Harass, threaten, or abuse other users
• Post illegal content or content that violates others' rights
• Spam, flood, or disrupt the system
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to accounts or the server
• Use automated tools to interact with the Service without permission
• Circumvent bans or moderation actions
• Use Ava or any feature to generate or solicit illegal content, to harass others, or to flood or overload the system (including attempts to bypass rate limits)
• Rely on Ava or any automated output as professional advice

4. Content

You own the content you post. By posting, you grant Afterline a non-exclusive license to display and distribute that content through the Service. Public posts (wall, conference) are visible to all signed-in users. Private messages are delivered only to their intended recipients.

We do not actively monitor content, but the SysOp may moderate at their discretion to maintain a healthy community.

Automated lines produced by Ava may appear where the Service shows community conversation (for example the conference room and its scrollback). Those lines are generated by software, not by the SysOp or by other users unless explicitly quoted.

5. Moderation & Termination

The SysOp may mute, boot, or ban users who violate these terms or disrupt the community. IP-based bans may be applied in severe cases. You may stop using Afterline at any time by signing out and uninstalling the extension. You may request account deletion by contacting us.

6. Availability

Afterline is a small, independent project. We do our best to keep it running, but we don't guarantee uptime, data preservation, or uninterrupted service. The Service may be modified, suspended, or discontinued at any time.

7. Disclaimer

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free, secure, or available at any particular time.

Automated features including Ava are provided “as is” without warranty as to accuracy, appropriateness, or fitness for any purpose; you use them at your own risk.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Afterline and its operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.

9. Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
