ABOUT AFTERLINE

I dreamed of running my own BBS as a teenager in the early-to-mid '90s. I never did, but I spent plenty of time on CNet BBSes in the Chicago area. They were hosted on Amigas, though I never actually used an Amiga myself.

I've seen folks standing up BBSes again lately, and for nostalgia reasons I started building one you could reach via Telnet, SSH, or dial-up. I even thought about buying an Amiga and installing CNet. Then I realized it would mainly be for me, because nobody would actually visit it.

The biggest problem with BBSes today is the same one they've always had: they're a destination you have to go out of your way to reach. So I put this one in a browser extension, right where we already are, all the time. My hope is that by meeting people where they live, we'll cross paths more often.

I really wanted to find the right blend of retro and modern. You'll note you can type or click, but the experience always leans retro.

Sign up, see who's around, chat, post on the wall or message boards, send mail. You can page me and I'll hop on too.

Reach out anytime, on Afterline or at my email below. Enjoy.
